Finding The Ideal Chicken Coop

Chickens are great to have around! They are useful in so many different ways. And they are just plain fun to keep. It would be great if there was an ideal chicken coop to keep your chickens in wouldn’t it?

Here are some ideas for people that are looking for that “ideal” coop for their chickens.

The portable chicken coop can be easily moved (hence the name “portable”). It is a fairly light, small coop that’s great for a backyard chicken keeper. It can be moved over the back yard and through the garden to fertilize and renew the grass and soil. These chicken coops are available ready-made, and can be built by the do-it-yourselfer with the help of plans. Plans are available online in the form of pdf. files and books.

The “semi-portable” chicken coop is a larger coop that can be moved over the land to fertilize it. These coops are clumsier to move. They can also hold more birds. If you have a small farm and would like more than a few hens to lay eggs, this would be a good choice.

The permanent or stationary coop is the old-time hen house. These can be made to hold large numbers of birds. The disadvantage to these coops is mostly cleanliness. These coops attract rats and disease. But if you are very careful to keep them clean, they are a viable option that is steeped in early American history.

These are just some thoughts about the different kinds of chicken coops, their strengths and weaknesses. Really, finding the “ideal chicken coop” depends on where you are, and what your situation is. What is an ideal coop for one person’s situation may not be ideal for another’s. And remember to make it not only ideal for you, but for your chickens too!

Getting Chickens???......?

I'm getting two hens for pets, but mostly for the fresh eggs, and they'll live in my backyard. Ive googled chicken coops and how to build them yourself, but I only found books to buy on it...Does anyone know how to build your own coop for two hens. Or if I should just buy one? And anything else I might need to know about chickens. Thanks so much:)

Make sure it's kept in a safe place in the yard to keep them away from predators.
