Home Made Chicken Coops

Deciding to keep chickens in your own backyard really has to be one of the best decisions you will ever make. You can a build a homemade hen house for them to live in very cheaply and probably the most amazing thing is that before long you will be enjoying the fresh taste of the free range eggs that your own chickens lay. Do not put off getting yourself some hens and building a homemade hen house it is so simple you will quite possibly kick yourself for not having done it earlier.

I am not really sure why but, there has been such a massive worldwide interest in chicken keeping recently. Perhaps it is because people have realised that to be able to keep poultry is not as difficult as they may have first thought. To be fair, I myself have discovered such an amazing amount of poultry related information that is easily found at the touch of a button maybe this has had an influence on swaying peoples decisions to take the plunge and want to keep poultry.

I found it so useful to be able to access this vast encyclopaedia of chicken keeping hints and tips, particularly in relation to hen housing, that if I was honest really did make such a difference to me as, having looked through it I saw that to be able to give your chickens the right sort of housing was not going to be the problem that I thought. I had put obstacles in my way that were not there at all.

I found plans that would suit anybody and then how to manage your backyard space to your best advantage and something that I did not realise was that I really would not need as much space as I first thought. You do not have to be a master craftsman or a carpenter, as long as you are able to hold a screw driver and follow step by step instructions, you can do it. It really is that easy for just about anyone to achieve.

The ideas on lighting are simple to put into place and it makes perfect sense that to keep the coop dry and well ventilated helps to keep your hens healthy and happy.

The fact that you can get all the materials you will need from your local DIY store is a bonus, no having to find a specialist store of some kind. This is great as it means you can have a good look at everything you buy to make sure that you get the best quality too.

I have to say that in building your homemade hen house, you will be pretty proud of yourself. Your chickens will be content and you know that you have housed them just about right. When you are collecting fresh eggs every day then you can be pretty sure that your chickens love their homemade hen house and you will know it was definitely worth doing.

Building a hen house can be simple and great fun when you are given the correct information. They are practical, easy to assemble and can save you a fortune.

There are dozens of poultry related websites that claim to offer visitors great hen house plans, but few sadly seem to offer little more than a single basic design. However one of the best hen house design websites online that has been endorsed by hundreds of chicken breeders and owners worldwide so far contains a wealth of chicken housing data and related information that is well worth reviewing. Seriously--Why is my chicken crossing the road?

Here's a weird piece of animal behavior. My Polish rooster has crossed our fairly, busy, country blacktop road, twice, and another time I chased him back before he made it. It's quite a distance from the coop. He doesn't take any hens with him; he's not crossing for food, there is only long grass and weeds across the road. Once he gets to the other side he just sits in the ditch and kind of bops his head up and down while looking back across the road at home. Apparently he knows why the chicken is crossing the road, I have no idea!!
P.S. I know the solution is to lock him up, I know at this rate he will probably end up as road kill- that's not the question. I just thought this is a very curious situation.
Disappointed in the answers I have been given; I do not buy the bug theory. You readers and answers can decide who gets best answer.

Mabye he is looking for bugs,my chickens do this all the time
Or i have seen the head bobing as a sign as agressice behavior...
