The reason for making chicken coops is to keep the birds safe from predators. We also make chicken coops so that they have a place to rest peacefully when it is time to lay their eggs. If we let them room and lay their eggs just anywhere you would never find them until it is too late.

When your make the chicken coop you want to make sure there is no way for them to get out once you pen them up. This is for their own safety. A wily fox is smart enough to know that all he has to do is scare them from the outside so that they run out of the keep so that he can catch them.
