Chicken Coop Heaters
Chicken Coop Heaters
One of the most cost efficient ways to go solar is to build a solar water heater system. If the cost of solar electric systems has you discouraged, heating water with solar is a low cost alternative. You can build a solar water heater system for less money than some people pay in one months electric bill.
Heat is a natural product of the sun's energy. When the sun shines on just about any material it's going to absorb heat. Photovoltaic panels require a complex configuration of expensive materials to generate electricity. But with heating water it's more simple. If you have ever left a jug of water in the sun you probably know it's going to get warm.
When you build a solar water heater it uses the same concept only amplified. When you leave a jug out in the sun the water will continue to absorb heat but most of it is lost by being absorbed out of the water by the surrounding environment. A solar water heater is designed to allow the sun to heat the water while letting as little heat as possible escape. This allows solar heaters to work even when the weather is cold.
Fortunately this can be done with low cost materials that are available in most hardware stores. You can put one together in a weekend using common tools. The amount of heated water you can produce is only limited by what you decide to build. You can use the hot water for all your normal household use and more. If you build one extra big or more than one you can have excess hot water for heating a pool or hot tub or any other use you can think of.
