There are many ideas for chicken nesting boxes. You can put your chickens together in a communal type atmosphere. You can create smaller boxes which will give the chickens a more comfortable enviornment to likely produce more eggs in. The great thing is that you can make your own boxes for nearly no money.

In all actuality, chickens can lay eggs in most any type of box. The question then becomes what type of box will you, the chicken coop owner choose for your chickens. Chicken coop owners can use things like bowls and old wood boxes to house their chickens. A good rule of thumb to have is to ask yourself if I were a chicken would I want to lay eggs in this type of box? If the answer to that question is no then I would consider using something else that would be more suitable. As long as your chicken have enough room in their makeshift chicken nesting boxes to lay eggs, they should be ok.

Some key things to remember when you select your chicken nesting boxes are: They should not be hard to clean, they should be big enough for your chickens to lay their eggs with a little breathing room of course and they should not be placed too close too other boxes in order to alleviate the problem of straw and feces from other chickens falling on the box.

While making chicken nesting boxes takes work, remember that with the proper training this challenge can be easily overcome. They can be made easily if you have the right training!

How can we stop our chickens from nesting on pretend (plastic golf balls) eggs?

We put plastic golf balls in our nesting boxes in our coop, and it encourages the chickens to lay eggs, and also deters them from pecking the eggs. Except now we have one that has been nesting on several of the plastic balls for a few weeks, and we're worried that because they won't hatch, she'll stay their forever out of devotion to her "plastic" eggs.....Help!

take the fake eggs out and usually having eggs real or not discourages birds. Why are they going to lay eggs when they are already taking care of them? I admit I don't know a whole lot about chickens but with other birds I know that if they have eggs they don't usually lay more.
