Chicken Coop Tractor Plans
Chicken Coop Tractor Plans
You can design a really good poultry house in your backyard for 4 or so chickens if you have a good set of plans to start with. These plans should address some critical question and issues. For a start you should know that your coop should at least provide for 4 square feet of space per bird to your chickens if they are to live comfortably. So if you have 4 chickens then your poultry house should offer a minimum space of 16 square feet. Of course if you can provide more then it will make your birds only happier! Poultry houses of this size are referred to as chicken "tractors" or "arks" we will see why in a moment! Here are a few things that your poultry house design must incorporate:
a. Plenty of air and sunshine: Any poultry house should have plenty of room for air for sunshine. This should be easy here as chicken tractors are (relatively) open constructions.
b. Protection from Predators: This is sort of a primary function of any poultry house; your coop must provide enough protection from both land and air based predators.
c. A no-floor arrangement: So that the chickens can easily access the ground. This has numerous advantages; the chicken can reach the grass so that they can eat the weed and pests from your backyard.
d. Easily deployed: This means that it should be easy to move around your backyard. This is one of the key features that a Chicken tractor has to offer. By moving it around your chicken can access a greater area in your backyard thereby ridding just that much area of all the weed and pests.
Did you know that the leading cause of chicken death is because of neglect? Even though most people have the best of intentions they simply lack the knowledge they require to maintain a healthy livestock. On my Chicken Coop Design Page I have discussed various things that you need to keep in mind when you are raising your poultry.
