Single Comb White Leghorns are among the best egg layers and they average 300 eggs each year. However, you should note that these hens are not very good at sitting on their eggs. Rhode Island Red is another excellent breed when it comes to egg production. Their eggs are brown and of very high quality.
Finally, the sex links are chickens that are bred specifically for egg production. If you want hens that are good egg layers and hatchers at the same time, consider Cuckoo Maran, Light Sussex and Plymouth rocks.
If you are bent on raising laying hens for complete commercial purposes, go for hybrid birds. These types of birds are consistent layers, however, their eggs cannot match those of organic breeds in terms of nutritional value and taste.
